Why take the pledge?
Far too many Black youth continue to be demonized, criminalized and murdered.
Enough is enough!
In response to this intensifying crisis, the Black Youth Project (BYP) has launched “The Pledge.”
With “The Pledge,” we are asking individuals and organizations to close ranks around black youth and make a commitment to take action and fight with black youth as they confront a relentless crisis. We at the BYP believe that each person can make a difference by doing something!
By taking The Pledge we not only articulate our concern about black youth, but symbolically unite our voices with others who will work to confront this crisis.
If we each take action, whether it is starting a group, signing a petition, or mentoring a young person in your neighborhood, then we all become a part of the solution.
Stand With Black Youth!

The Campaign to Suppress Black Voters Continues….
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again:
The powers that be do NOT want you to vote!
A recent Slate article brings to light the continued campaign to suppress minority votes in the coming elections. The variety of new requirements for voting – which range from requring birth certificates and government-issued I.D to cutting early voting windows – disproportionately impact Black voters.
For example, while 12% of Americans do not have a government-issued I.D., that number soars to a whopping 25% amongst Black people.
Slate’s Risa L. Goluboff and Dahlia Lithwick explain:
This is unacceptable. We must inform our communities of this attack on our constitutional rights.
A major element of pushback against these nefarious efforts is going to be education. Pass this story and others like it along to your family and friends. Stay informed regarding efforts to institute such policies in your district.
And for god’s sake, VOTE!
