Why take the pledge?
Far too many Black youth continue to be demonized, criminalized and murdered.
Enough is enough!
In response to this intensifying crisis, the Black Youth Project (BYP) has launched “The Pledge.”
With “The Pledge,” we are asking individuals and organizations to close ranks around black youth and make a commitment to take action and fight with black youth as they confront a relentless crisis. We at the BYP believe that each person can make a difference by doing something!
By taking The Pledge we not only articulate our concern about black youth, but symbolically unite our voices with others who will work to confront this crisis.
If we each take action, whether it is starting a group, signing a petition, or mentoring a young person in your neighborhood, then we all become a part of the solution.
Stand With Black Youth!

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO LOVE?
Some people don’t know what it means to love because love is taught from one person to another. I want to see us build a better world for each other. I always speak about the help for men and their needs but what about our women? It hurt me to see so many young women having a problem with keeping a relationship with their boyfriends. There are so many women that do not know how to love. I believe when a woman is raised without her father or a male figure who expressed love
to her she will have a problem loving. I have heard so many women say they grew up without a father so they look at their man or boyfriend as that father or male figure. This is an issue because if the parents don’t know how to love then the child doesn’t know how to love. When a person doesn’t know how to receive love
then they will not know how to express it. Our youth are looked upon as heartless and it’snot that. They just don’t know how to love! Who taught you how to love? Everyone show love in there on way.My father showed his love by spending money and taking me shopping. But all I wanted was time to spend with him, a hug, or to hear him say I love you Jack! I can say from the age of 13 up until now I have hugged my father twice. He expressed love in that fashion because of his relationship with his father. This is a generational problem. So many people hide their feelings or never talk about this issue because it is hard to talk about. We have to open our eyes and love each other and express it. One of the most important things I do with my daughter is tell her I love you, hug, play, and express to her how much she means to me. This will build her self-confidence throughout life and she will always know daddy loves her. I don’t want my daughter searching for love because she will receive it from me. The only thing I pray a man can offer my daughter is a ring on her left hand. We have to help our girls grow into woman by expressing love.
