Remembering the Little Rock Nine

Although most of our attention will be channeled towards Charlotte, NC and the DNC, today is also the day 9 black students attempted to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, AR:

On this day in 1957, the “Little Rock Nine,” a group of African American high school students, unsuccessfully attempted to pass through angry crowds to integrate Central High School in Arkansas. Governor Orval Faubus had called out the National Guard to prevent them from entering the school.

Despite some strides in the decades since, many students attend segrated schools and often receive educations that are inferior to their white counterparts.
