Online Petitions for Secession Flood Internet in the Wake of Obama Re-election

In the wake of Barack Obama’s reelection, a flood of petitions from a variety of states calling for secession have begun to gain signatures on the White House’s We The People site.

According to Loop21, citizens from over 21 states have filed such petitions, and they’re generating a growing number of signatures by the hour.

In fact, many of these petitions are likely to reach over 25,000 signatures, at which time the President would likely have to respond.

From Loop21:

So far, the states include Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky, Michigan, Colorado, New Jersey, Montana, Missouri, North Dakota, Indiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New York, Arkansas, and Oregon. (Links to each state show the number of citizens from each state that have requested secession.)

Petitioners have one month to obtain 25,000 signatures in order for the president to consider the request. Louisiana was first, posting its request on Nov. 7 and was followed by Texas on Nov. 9.

As of press time Monday afternoon, Louisiana had 14,817 signatures; Texas is just about there with 21,869.
